Redclaw Hatchery
We were the first
in Australia to trial a crayfish egg incubator (since 2004) that was originally
developed in Finland and in the local Finish dialect is called a “Hemputin”.
The Hemputin allows us to incubate eggs independently of the mother
resulting in increased survival. An added advantage of the Hemputin is
the juveniles produced appear to be Specific Pathogen Free. This increases
survival and growth once stocked into the earthen ponds as the little
crays are not burdened with fighting disease that they normally would
contract while with the mother (see
article on the Hemputin in Austasia Aquaculture Vol 21 No-2 – June
07)
